I think people learned stuff the first go round... just not the right stuff. It's depressing as hell to re-read books from this time and hear younger!me figuring that some of this stuff would be completely gone or at least much, much better by the time adult!me was a thing. We shouldn't be moving backwards, progress-wise. ;_;
